Versatile and antiseptic. Melrose Organic Blue Mallee Eucalyptus Oil can be used as part of your personal care routine as well as all around the house to deodorise and disinfect.

Eucalyptus is native to Australia and its oil has long been used for its medicinal properties. Eucalyptus oil is extracted from the fresh leaves and branch tips, as well as dried leaves and has to contain at least 70% of the volatile oil 'eucalyptol' to have effective antiseptic action. Eucalyptus oil is widely used for relieving cold and flu symptoms due to its antiseptic properties and its ability to clear nasal congestion and bronchial tubes. Diluted eucalyptus oil can also be used as a gargle or mouth wash, for steam inhalation, or as a rub for muscular aches and pains. Around the house eucalyptus oil can be added to the laundry wash - its deodorising and antiseptic properties will give clothes a cleaner and fresher feel. Eucalyptus oil is germicidal and effective at killing bacteria: it can be diluted (in a vinegar solution for example) and used as a surface disinfectant. It is an excellent solvent which also makes it an ideal spot and stain remover.

To prepare a Eucalyptus steam inhalation:

  • Carefully pour about 4-6 cups of near-boiling water into a large bowl.
  • Add three drops of Eucalyptus oil.
  • Hold your head over the bowl, eyes closed.
  • Cover your head with a sheet or towel.
  • Breathe slowly and deeply for about 15 minutes.
